HS Pro Series, ‘Deadbait Special’

HS Pro Series, ‘Deadbait Special’

By Willem Zijlstra

It is Saturday evening and I am checking the weather forecast. With -2°C it will be the first night below zero. A cold wind from the east and a clear sky will make it a very cold day. It is perfect to try the new Deadbait Special rod from the Henk Simonsz Pro series for the first time.

The Deadbait Special rod from the Henk Simonsz Pro-series

These rods have a nice finishing and 2 lengths are available; 3 meters for trolling from boat and 3.40 meters for fishing from the bank. The last rod has a casting weight of up to 130g which is sufficient for casting dead bait at a larger distance.

002 HS Pro Series Deadbait Specialist 577Px
The 3.40m is perfect for fishing from the bank. To cast larger distances is no problem.

After setting the desired depth and rigging the bait, I put the rod in the rod rest. The dead bait in combination with a fireball jighead will do the job today. The 3.0m Deadbait Special is perfect for this set-up. I really like the larger tip guide. Because of its size it is unlikely to freeze up. The large diameter is perfect for the stop knot too.

The 3.0m is perfect for trolling from boat

After only a couple of meters we get our first hook-up. The rod absorbs the first aggressive runs well. It is a lightweight rod with a nice parabolic action. The fish is landed easily and we are on to the next. Unfortunately it appeared early on it will be a very tough day and with only 3 bites, the morning passed by.

During lunch break I take a closer look to the Deadbait Specialist. It is neatly finished and the cork handle lies comfortably in the hand. The 3.40m’s handle is slightly longer for a little more grip during playing a fish. Typical for this series is the blue colour of the blank. The guides and reel seat are solid quality components and are a perfect match for the whole rod.

This is what it’s all about don’t you think?!

Personally I think these rods are a true asset to deadbait anglers. Regarding value for money this rods series will surprise you for sure!
